About Our Township

Rice Township is a Second Class Township governed by a three person Board of Supervisors.  The Township was chartered in 1928 and was formerly part of Wright Township, which held most of what is presently known as Mountaintop.  The Township is located at the center of Luzerne County and is comprised of approximately eleven square miles.  The Township owns and maintains over 21 miles of roads.  According to the 2010 Census, the population is 3,335, making Rice Township the fastest growing community in Luzerne County.  New homes are being built every day!
